California: Week of May 24-May 31

This week has been an exciting week. The lady I am staying with is great she is from Kenya, so I have been exposed to Kenya and California culture. Sunday night was really fun because after the Sunday night service there was a group from the church that went and had dinner, and it was a good time of fellowship around the dinner table. Monday, there was a church wide picnic. That time was great to meet people casually. We ate, played games, and there was even a water fight. I was busy playing games, so I missed out on the water fight.
Tuesday was when the training for the summer actually begun. So, we started on the road to find where we were suppose to go, and once we got to the building there was no one there, so we went to go get some coffee and when we came back there was still no one there, so we waited until someone finally arrived. After a while, we a realized that we were at the wrong place, so once I got to where I was suppose to be it was great. We started off by giving the people in the community free groceries if they needed them. Once we finished with the service project, I finally got to meet the other missionaries that had come for the summer. We had lunch together, and then we started discussing the details for the summer. Once we had finished lunch, we went around the city to see some things that would encourage us. We went to a church that has their own student area, and it was very impressive and inspirational because this is what the student ministries we are working with could be within a few years.
Wednesday and Thursday were days filled with lectures over prayer, evangelism, discipleship, teaching, and other topics that would be helpful for us throughout the summer. One day we had In and Out Burger, that was so good, and the other day we had Chick-Fil-A. It was fun trying a new experience and it was even better to be reminded of home.
Friday, was such a fun day! We went to our director’s house, and she had made us breakfast, which was a breakfast casserole, fruit, a breakfast cake, and juice. During the morning we finished going over the things for the summer. When we had finished doing that, we relaxed by the pool. It was too cold to get in, but it was nice enough to sit outside. The group got to know each other a little bit better. As we were sitting around the pool, we decided that we wanted to do something as a group that night, so we exchanged addresses and phone numbers, and we parted out ways. That night we went to downtown San Diego! We parked in the Horton Plaza parking garage on the corn level! The Horton Plaza is a mall that is several levels, and is outside. The group decided to go eat at Hard Rock CafĂ©! The food was really good, I got a California Club. It had avocadoes, tomatoes, chicken, lettuce, and other good stuff on it. We did not stay out very long because we all were very tired. The lady I am staying with was suppose to have guests come while I was gone, but when I got home they had not come yet, and she said they would be there soon. So, not too long after I arrived at home her guests arrived. She had made some Kenyan food, and she wanted me to have some, and I did not want it because I was so full, but she begged me to have some, so I had just a little. We sat around the table and talked for a while, but I was so tired I did not last very long, I went to bed around one, and they said they were up until 3.
Saturday, was a fun day also. We spend the day with her guests. We went to Balboa Park and downtown to a park on the harbor. There was some Mexican festival going on and there were some food sample booths, I did not have very much, but what I had was interesting. It was a fun day of spending time with each other.
Today is Sunday, May 31, and so far today has been a good day. We went to church, and the girls in the youth were very open and talkative, and we had good discussion. The service this morning was good. He showed us a picture of was Paul’s jail sell looked like. After church, the youth team had a meeting, and it was exciting because the team was coming up with the idea, and not me. So this summer has started off really well, and I am excited to see what happens from here!

California Here I Come!

The summer fun has begun! Yesterday, I left for California for two months! I arrived in California about 3pm California time. Everyone I have met has been really sweet and wonderful. I have not done much yet. Tomorrow, we will go to church; Monday, there is a church picnic; and Tuesday, our orientation begins. I will try to keep this updated throughout the summer!

Forgive Yourself!

Sorry that it has been a long time since I last posted, life happens. I received this devotion in my email yesterday, and it helped me out a lot. I hope it helps you too!

1 JOHN 2:12 NLT
12 I am writing to you who are God's children because your sins
have been forgiven through Jesus.

COLOSSIANS 3:13 NIV
13 . . . Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

GALATIANS 5:14 NIV
14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your
neighbor as yourself."

For many people, the hardest person to forgive is themselves.

If God can forgive us, then we can, and must, forgive
ourselves. Not to forgive ourselves is to exalt ourselves above
God.

If God can decree that we are forgive-able, but we say we are
too bad to be forgiven, we are saying we know more than God.

Should your standards be higher than God's standards? He
forgives. Why won't you forgive yourself?

The devil wants you to stay focused on your past and your
failures, so you will not receive God's blessing.

God wants you to believe His Word and focus on His victory so
you will have a better future.

Which one will you choose to follow?

Because God has forgiven me, I forgive myself.

You Are A Spirit

So everyday I get daily devotions in my email, and the one I read today was very interesting. Feel free to comment on this if you wish.

JOHN 4:24 NKJ24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

GENESIS 1:26-27 NKJ26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness...." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Because we are created in the image of God, it follows that, since He is spirit -- we are also spirit. To say it clearly, you are a spirit-being, you have a soul (mind and emotions), and you live in a body.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:23 NKJ23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

According to Scripture, humans have 3 parts: spirit, soul, and body. (Note that spirit and soul are not the same. )

ROMANS 12:1-2 NKJ1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Note that YOU are to do something with your body. So, your body is not the real you, but something that you possess. Also, you are to renew your mind (verse 2). Nothing is said about your spirit in this passage because your spirit is the part that is born again with new life from God when you receive Jesus.

JOHN 3:6-7 NKJ6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, `You must be born again.'

From this Scripture we see that when you are born again, the part that is born again is your spirit -- not your mind, and not your body.

So, the real you is your spirit -- which is born again, right with God, and filled with His life. You are to control your body, and to control what is fed into your mind, so that it can be renewed by the Word of God to know the truth. Then your life will be changed, and conformed to the will of

California!

So, this month has been pretty intense. School has been going great and learning a whole bunch. It has been a month of "growing up" you could say. I had a meeting with the youth pastor of the church I attend in Indiana. It was a great time. I can now serve in the youth group. I am excited to see what God does in the lives of the students there.

I am also very excited about this summer this year as well. Today I recieved a letter from NAMB that I have been recommended to the San Diego, California area! I do not know all of the details yet.I should know within the next few weeks. I am very excited to see what goes on from here.

Snow, Ice, and Eveything Nice

So I thought it was about time for an update. So this week has been real interesting. So Monday was just a super great day. I got up did my laundry, did some homework, went to class, and went to dorm meeting. All day there had been the talk for snow starting at 10 pm. So we were just waiting to see what would happen. So, we went to bed, about 6:30 am we get a text from security that there is no class. So that day was fun because we still had power. Most people stayed up really late even though we did not have word about Wednesday morning. Well, in the morning we found out that classes were cancelled. I was sitting with my friends after eating lunch; we were just talking. Then, the power goes out in the girls dorms! They tell us that we cannot stay in our dorms. So we got to stay in the chaple where the guys live. Last night was just a great time of fellowshipping. We played games and watched movies. Thursday they tell everyone to get off campus if they can. Do not know anymore what will go on from here. Hopefully they will let us know soon.

Don't Wait For Tomorrow

Yesterday, I read the following devotion, and it really inspired me, and I hope it inspires you.

Proverbes 27:1 (NIV)-Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Do what you need to do today.
Don't wait to receive Jesus. Don't put off doing the will of God. Don't wait to tell someone you love them.
James 4:13-15 (NIV)-Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."
You don't know what tomorrow holds -- or even if you will be here tomorrow.
Keep your focus on God. Trust in Him, and do His will today.

Welcome!

Hey Everyone,
So I decided to start this blog just so you can know what is going on in my life. I will do my best to keep it updated.
